First of all, I am not a doctor. Nor am I a nutritionist. I don't work in a bar, but I do spend a lot of time in them. I make cocktails as a hobby, mostly because I enjoy drinking them. I've read a few books and have done some research on nutrition, and have since converted to a mostly paleo diet. I say mostly because I still drink alcohol, and I'll eat pizza and cinnamon rolls when I'm on vacation.
I'm 6'2" and 190 lbs with and maintain 10% or less body fat. I've never not been lean, but since adopting paleo nutrition, I look, feel, and perform better with significantly less effort, and without much impact to my drinking.
There are plenty of resources on the web with recipes for making "paleo" versions of your favorite foods, and even for silly shit like cookies and brownies. What I haven't seen, is a resource for making cocktails more paleo friendly. That's what I'm here to do. I'll be making paleo versions of my favorite cocktails, or getting as close as possible without veering too far. Sometimes there's nothing particularly paleo about a recipe, and sometimes it's simply a matter of changing a single ingredient. I'll try find the most natural ingredients I can, or use common substitutions often found in paleo recipes. It's not rocket science. If you have something to share or if you find I'm mistaken, feel free to post comments or shoot me an email.
If you are trying to lose a significant amount of weight, or really have trouble maintaining where you're at, you should probably avoid booze altogether. If this is you and you really need a drink, stick with something like this. If you are in decent shape and not "metabolically deranged" as Robb Wolf puts it, feel free to indulge in the recipes I post here. They won't kill you.
